Published Tue 12 Nov 2024

Badminton Victoria (BV) is proud to announce a meaningful partnership with Dardi Munwurro, an organization empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people(s) across Victoria. This partnership aims to foster inclusivity in badminton and celebrate Aboriginal heritage in our sport.

“This partnership is about building something lasting and meaningful, and I’m honored to have the trust and support of Dardi Munwurro as we take this journey together." Badminton Victoria Chief Executive Officer Clint Proctor said. “Together with Dardi Munwurro, we look forward to providing opportunities for Aboriginal men, women, and youth to connect with badminton, whether through community events, training, or simply enjoying the sport. Clint added.

At the heart of the partnership is a new uniform featuring artwork by Aboriginal artist Tyrhys Wilson. This beautiful design tells a story of connection and unity, symbolizing rivers meeting the ocean and the country linking with the city across Victoria. “We’re excited to unveil this powerful symbol of unity and respect at the upcoming Vic Open,” Clint added.

Key Initiatives

  • Acknowledgment of Country at Events: BV will now begin each official event with an Acknowledgment of Country, honoring the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we play. This practice reflects BV’s commitment to recognizing and respecting Aboriginal heritage in Victoria.

  • Community Engagement and Facility Access: BV is providing Dardi Munwurro and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people(s) access to our facilities for community events and programs, encouraging a sense of shared space within the badminton community.

  • New Uniform Design: Featuring artwork by Tyrhys Wilson, the uniform reflects Victoria’s landscapes and cultural connection.
