Atalanta Jamboree 2024: Ladies Competition in Melbourne

Published Wed 16 Oct 2024

Over four decades, this tournament has been an awaited annual event that attracts ladies' players from all over Australia and New Zealand. This event was aptly named after a heroine in Greek mythology, Atalanta, who was recognised for her speed, athleticism and femininity, which encompasses the atmosphere surrounding the event.

The Atalanta Jamboree is more than just a badminton tournament, it's about the connections that are created at this event that Ann Redpath, a player from the Tassie Super Troopers, described as “lifelong friendships” and said that a highlight of the jamboree is “meeting the other ladies and being able to come back year after year and those ladies are still coming”. This sentiment was also felt by Grace Chan, a player from the Eastern Ladies Badminton Association, who expressed that the Atalanta Jamboree is a “great place to make friends”.

The 2024 tournament will see over 250 people and 48 teams from across New Zealand and Australia and it will continue to be a hub of competition and friendship, allowing attendees to catch up with their peers every year while playing a sport they love and that has brought them together.
